Collingwood, Ontario — August 2026 — Mapleview Energy, a Canadian clean technology company developing intelligent circular energy storage solutions using repurposed electric vehicle batteries, has received funding from the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) R&D Partnership Fund. The project represents a total investment of $300,000, including $100,000 from the Province of Ontario through OVIN and $200,000 from Caspri Ventures Inc.

The project will support the deployment of a 600 kWh second-life battery energy storage pilot at an agricultural site in Ontario. The AI-enabled battery energy storage and managed charging system will integrate with on-site solar generation to help store energy, shift electricity use, manage peak demand, provide backup power capability, and improve energy resilience for agricultural operations.

The deployment marks a major milestone for Mapleview Energy as the company moves from prototype development and technical validation into real-world commercial deployment. It also demonstrates a growing opportunity at the intersection of electric vehicles, energy storage, and circular infrastructure. As more EV batteries reach the end of their automotive life and demand for energy storage continues to grow, Mapleview Energy is developing systems that turn under-utilized battery assets into reliable distributed energy infrastructure.

Ontario's agricultural operations are operating in an increasingly complex environment. By pairing second-life EV battery storage with on-site solar generation, this project will help demonstrate how Ontario-made clean technologies can support more flexible, resilient, and cost-effective energy use in rural and commercial settings.

Through OVIN support, this project is helping advance Ontario-made clean technology solutions that strengthen the province's battery, energy storage, and mobility ecosystem while supporting commercialization and real-world adoption.

Quotes

"As EV adoption accelerates, we are going to see a growing wave of batteries reaching the end of their automotive life at the same time that businesses, farms, and communities need more reliable and affordable energy storage. Mapleview Energy was built around a simple idea: if these batteries still have useful life remaining, they should continue creating value. With support from OVIN, this project helps us demonstrate how repurposed EV batteries can become distributed energy infrastructure that improves resilience, supports renewable energy, and strengthens Ontario's circular battery economy."

Nick Nesbitt, Founder and CEO of Mapleview Energy

"Ontario's automotive and mobility sector continues to demonstrate the innovation, talent and ambition needed to lead in a rapidly evolving global market. Through OVIN, we are helping Ontario companies accelerate the development of transformative technologies, strengthen strategic partnerships, and bring made-in-Ontario solutions closer to commercialization. Investments like these play an important role in reinforcing Ontario's supply chain and ensuring the province remains competitive in the industries of the future."

Raed Kadri, Head of the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) at OCI

"Ontario's continued leadership in automotive and mobility innovation is built on the strength of collaboration. By bringing together innovative SMEs, industry partners, researchers, and government, OVIN is creating the conditions for made-in-Ontario technologies to move from concept to commercialization faster. These investments are helping build a more resilient, competitive automotive ecosystem — one that creates high-value jobs, attracts investment, and ensures Ontario remains a global leader in the future of mobility."
